The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD), Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and GIZ (formerly known as GTZ) has initiated the `National School Sanitation Initiative’ with an objective to improve school sanitation scenario and to raise awareness leading to behavioural change.

The study found that the groundwater of the basin is extremely hard with total hardness, magnesium and potassium contents being above the permissible limits. Thirty nine out of 57 samples exceed the allowable limits for fluoride.

The Durban climate negotiations have set into motion new negotiations, with the possibility of re-opening old and contentious issues, while at the same time leaving the global climate regulatory framework unchanged. While disappointing, this does create a possibility of starting anew.

Earlier studies carried out by the Department of Mines and Geology during 1994, 1995 and 2003 on the groundwater quality of Bangalore Metropolis had found that the groundwater pollution in the city has mainly been due to sewage disposal and recommendations have been made to prevent pollution from sewage and industrial wastes.
