Troubled by the plight of children in brick kilns and slums and the widespread indifference towards sanitation, clean drinking water and health, Amlan Ganguly and his organization decided to target the young to educate slum –dwellers.

They are naturally occuring depressions with high terrain on the three sides where water from the surrounding laterite slopes, mainly runoff from the rains, is accumulated.

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) (French: Centre de recherches pour le développement international—CRDI ) is a Canadian Crown Corporation created by the Parliament of Canada in 1970. It supports research in developing countries to promote growth and development. IDRC reports to Canada’s Parliament through the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The aim of IDRC is to create innovative, lasting local solutions that build "healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies."
SDPI was founded in August 1992 on the recommendation of the Pakistan National Conservation Strategy (NCS), also called Pakistan’s Agenda 21. The NCS placed Pakistan’s socio-economic development within the context of a national environmental plan.
