I have made a reed bed for treating bath,wash basin and washing machine water. The aim was to reuse the water for gardening without doing major changes in the plumbing of existing houses. After close to two years from the first post here is an update:

Privatisation of urban water supply in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh - An update from Manthan Adyayan Kendra

Khandwa is a medium-sized town located in western Madhya Pradesh. The 'Khandwa water supply augmentation project' has been awarded to Vishwa Utilities Pvt. Ltd., a Hyderabad based company under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis for water supply augmentation to the town, for the next 25 years. The project has been under execution since October 2009. The private party would supply water to the town @ Rs 11.95 per KL. The raw water for this would be pumped from a reservoir 51 km, away from the town. This report by Gaurav Dwivedi and Rehmat, Manthan Adhyayan Kendra deals with the privatisation of urban water supply in the town.

Treating waste water using natural substances: Sol gel immobilization of humic and fulvic acids using microfibrillated cellulose

Microfibrillated nanocellulose has large pore sizes (100 to 1000 nm) and provides a large surface area of contact with surroundings. When manufactured by acid hydrolysis of substrate i.e. wastes from wine and sugar industry by acetobacter xylinum, it is lignin free and has a more intricate structure. (nanocellulose obtained as water suspension).

Humic acids and fulvic acids - Sol gel immobilization

Humic acids and fulvic acids have been known to remove heavy metals, toxins, viruses and other inorganic matter and convert them to organic matter. These acids can be obtained from dried cowdung by mild alkaline treatment and filtration.

Precious Kaveri water down the drain; wasted to wash vehicles: Letter to the Chairman, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board

I tried sending a suggestion to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to tackle the urgent crisis in Karnataka this hot summer but didn't get any reply. Water crisis is a serious issue. When people do not have water to irrigate their lands, to drink for themselves, it pains me in the heart to see people wasting water profusely to wash their vehicles which goes down the drain. Maharashtra Water Resource Regulatory Authority s approach paper on criteria for determination of bulk water tariff in 2013 - 2016 - Draft put out for inviting comments

The Maharashtra Water Resource Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) has in March 2012 circulated its approach paper on criteria for determination of bulk water tariff for the period 2013-2016. The draft is now put out for public consultation, which is the next step in the exercise as per the regulations.

भारत के पर्वतीय जल स्रोतों (स्प्रिंग्स) की स्थिति और इनके सतत प्रबंधन हेतु जल शक्ति मंत्रालय के प्रयास (भाग 1)

विभिन्न संगठनों द्वारा मानचित्रित किये गए कुल स्प्रिंग्स की संख्या और नीति आयोग की रिपोर्ट में देश भर में संभावित स्प्रिंग्स की संख्या (लगभग 30 से 50 लाख) को संज्ञान में रखते हुए जल शक्ति मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा स्प्रिंगशेड प्रबंधन हेतु गठित समिति द्वारा यह महसूस किया गया कि इनकी सम्पूर्ण देश में वास्तविक गणना अति आवश्यक है। इस क्रम में जल शक्ति मंत्रालय द्वारा देश के सभी राज्यों एवं केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में प्रथम स्प्रिंग सेन्सस हेतु नोडल एजेंसियां चिन्हित कर अगस्त, 2023 में राष्ट्रीय स्तर का प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम नई दिल्ली में आयोजित किया गया।

भूजल से संवरेगा कल

जल संकट का स्थायी समाधान भूजल ही है। इसी से हमारा कल यानि भविष्य संवर सकता है। अन्यथा जल के लिए संघर्ष होता रहेगा। खासतौर पर दूरस्थ ग्रामीण अंचलों में पीने के जल का गंभीर संकट उत्पन्न हो जाता है। महिलाओं को कई किलोमीटर दूर जाकर जल लाना पड़ता है। क्योंकि उनके अपने गांव-कस्बे या क्षेत्र में भूमिगत जल स्रोत पूर्णतः सूख गए होते हैं।
